Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday alleged that Narendra Modi government’s new land policy for Jammu and Kashmir overturns seven decades of land reform.

He said the historic land reform of early 1950s which empowered rural Jammu and Kashmir and brought about a marked reduction in poverty have been buried by the central government.

Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter the Vice President of the National Conference (NC) Omar said “ The historic land reforms of the early 1950s which empowered rural J&K & brought about a marked reduction in poverty have been buried by the central government: Modi Govt’s New Land Policy for J&K Overturns 7 Decades of Land Reform”.

In earlier tweet he had said ''Unacceptable amendments to the land ownership laws of J&K. Even the tokenism of domicile has been done away with when purchasing non-agricultural land & transfer of agricultural land has been made easier. J&K is now up for sale & the poorer small land holding owners will suffer.''

He said ''Interesting that the Centre waited till the elections to LAHDC had concluded & the BJP had won a majority before putting Ladakh up for sale. This is what Ladakhis got for trusting the assurances of the BJP.
